Can I switch if I have a smart meter installed?
Having a smart meter installed doesn't stop you switching energy supplier. Your new supplier will advise you on whether they support smart features, if they don't your meter will run similar to a traditional one and you may have to submit meter readings yourself.
Will a smart meter spy on me?
Absolutely not. The only information we'll receive from your smart meter is how much energy you're using. Your smart meter data will never be shared with any third parties for marketing purposes.
Are smart meters safe?
Yes, all smart meters meet UK and EU safety standards and installed by qualified engineers. Smart meters can help to make sure your home is safer. When the engineer installs your meter they'll also do a visual check for any existing problems. In 2017 and 2018, over 635,000 unsafe situations that were unrelated to a smart meter were identified during these safety checks.
